Internationl Environmental Negotiations
FARN is accredited to the Rio Conventions -Climate, Biodiversity and Desertification. It influences decision-making in alliance with civil society constituents, such as non-governmental organizations, youth and women.
A recent concrete outcome has been the 2030 Global Biodiversity Framework, which has human rights at its heart, including those of women, indigenous peoples and environmental defenders. This would not have been possible without the coordinated action of civil society in these spaces, providing official delegations with arguments for the inclusion of a rights-based approach in actions aimed at the conservation, sustainable use and restoration of biodiversity.
It also contributed to Argentina's Nationally Determined Contribution process, an instrument to be developed under the Paris Climate Agreement, to fully integrate the role of ecosystems in climate action and avoid a compartmentalised approach that ignores the interrelationship between biodiversity, land and climate.4
