BANCO DE ALIMENTOS´s new Warehouse
FOOD BANK NOW OPERATING FROM ITS NEW DISTRIBUTION CENTER IN BENAVÍDEZ
Thanks to contributions from individuals and private companies that financially support the NGO, the Food Bank moved its operations from San Martín to its new Distribution Center, which has a capacity of 2800 m2 to store 1800 positions of dry goods. Additionally, it has six points of sale and four reception points, which streamlines the logistical dynamics of receiving and delivering products.
Marisa Giráldez, Director of the Food Bank, stated: "Hunger affects more than a million people in our country, but children are the main victims; we are in a context where the demand for food continues to grow." She added, "With this new infrastructure, we eagerly welcome all companies that want to come and see how we operate."
Among its features, the new Distribution Center also includes two 300 m2 cold storage rooms to ensure proper preservation of the food from the moment it enters until it is picked up by the dining rooms and soup kitchens.
The organization, part of the Red Bancos de Alimentos (Food Banks Network), is driven by three pillars: reducing hunger, improving nutrition, and preventing food waste, which may occur due to various reasons (e.g., packaging errors or approaching expiration dates), making the items unsuitable for commercial sale. Their work is made possible by companies, individual donors, and volunteers who contribute to daily tasks, enabling the Food Bank's commitment to supporting those organizations in CABA and the Greater Buenos Aires area that provide breakfast, lunch, snacks, and/or dinner to those in greatest need.
