VISUAL HEALTH FOR THE EDUCATIONAL COMMUNITY

In a first stage, a Zambrano Foundation team visited schools separately with the intention of detecting and preventing visual problems that could cause learning problems and concentration on students. The ophthalmologists also trained the teachers so that they could take the visual acuity test to refer the specialists, if necessary. The tools acquired in the training allowed the teachers to carry out this activity without any inconvenience. The students referred by the teachers were evaluated by the ophthalmologist.

After this first evaluation, the need to wear glasses is diagnosed. Together with the students, the eyeglass frames were selected according to the characteristics of each child and their tastes. As a complement, the students received the booklet "See to learn" with material related to the subject to work in class and thus encourage the adoption of preventive behaviors in relation to visual health.

The second stage of the project, consisted in the delivery of the lenses to each one of the students of the schools that needed them. Thanks to this program, and working in partnership with the directors and teachers, an intervention was achieved on time and this can avoid major problems in the child's health.
